Nature Notes and Signs of the Season

Visit Michelle at the intelligent Nature Notes Thursday to learn something new.

It's springtime, all right. We had a heck of a thunderstorm yesterday evening and it rained all night. The temperatures are very cool and the humidity is low because a cold front came through. Maybe we should call it a cool front. My little rose bush has developed spots and holes in the leaves. Does anyone know what's wrong?

I got out in the garden after a short walk this evening. I trimmed some of the old peonies and worked on a new bird feeder. It is nice to be outside without wilting in the heat.

After I took the photo of the rose leaves, I turned the corner and saw that my tomato plant doubled in size since Monday! It must be the rain - thanks for spring rains!

Oh, I don't know about your rose bush spots, other than feed it compost! Good luck.

My tomatoes are happily growing now, too. They didn't like the cold spell we had for a while. But today was super humid, and yesterday it poured.

I love the way plants explode after a nice rain. Your rose is lovely and I hope the spot don't spell too much trouble.

It has been hot and humid and it is cooler here today, but still humid. I can't help you on the rose issue, but i am sure somebody can or google roses Caron....Michelle

Check the underside of your leaves. It looks like the work of rose slugs to me.

The tomato plant looks great! Nothing like a good rain to make everything take off.

Thanks for all the nice things about the tomato plant and encouragement about the roses.

Just as I was posting my next bit about rose slugs, MyMaracas delights me with reassurance! Hooray and thank you! That makes me feel more confident that I'm on target. Rose slugs can be pulled off and tossed aside as well. Is what I found out...
