How to spend Thanksgiving version 2009

Taking a prescription pain reliever that begins with Darv and rhymes with marv-a-bet is one way to survive Thanksgiving.

Only one small problem with this plan. You end up imitating a block of cement placed carefully on the couch and covered with a blanket. I enjoyed all of Thanksgiving this year. I was with family I enjoy, next to the fireplace, eating a turkey that had been alive earlier that morning (holy cow!) and looking through ads.

However, I almost fell asleep during dinner and toward the end, during the chatting and nibbling I like so much, my ability to string words into sentences began to disintegrate. Shortly thereafter, chatting became a challenge when thoughts in my head came out of my mouth in ways I didn't fully expect.

Due to a pesky medical procedure earlier this week, which has been one of the reasons I wasn't blogging (sorry), I had some of the marv-a-bet pills on hand. The night of surgery I took one and it didn't put me to sleep at all, so I thought I would be fine on Thanksgiving Day.

Clearly I was wrong. But I want to express my gratitude for the restraint of family members who could have loaded me up with clown makeup or a funny hat and taken photos while I slept through the Hilarious Mayhem.

Here's to Thanksgiving! Let's all have many drug-free holidays to come!

I hope you get to feeling better. Thank you again for all the nice things you have had to say about my blog.

I hope you're feeling better. And those Marv-A-Bet pills are something, aren't they? Not quite like Pik-O-Den (as a rhyming thing) which makes me do what you're describing - trailing off from one thought to another - then falling asleep (although I would always tell the people I happened to be talking with that I thought I needed to go to sleep then...zzzzzzzzzz). At least your family wasn't tempted (and if they were, they didn't act on it) to do funny things to you then post them on the web. :o))

Funny. I was on painkillers for Thanksgiving, too. Oh, the festivity.

Well, glad you enjoyed Thanksgiving. Hope you're feeling better.

A few years ago, my mom threw out her back right before Christmas. Hilarious holiday tomfoolery? Check. Oh, check, check, check.

I finally feel better. After Thanksgiving, it got worse. And here's the thing about those pills - when I took them at NIGHT, they didn't make me sleep. That sort of made me c.r.a.z.y.

NyQuil is so much better in so many ways.

Oh, so you enjoyed Thanksgiving, too! I came down with a cold that day...felt yukky for two or three days. The all over kind of yukky. Then for the next week and a half, all I could do was cough when I tried to sleep. I had no brains left because I coughed my brains out.

I hope you are feeling better...or over whatever happened. I know I am.
