I went for a walk

I went out on Beggars' Night with my 6-year-0ld niece. She was a cowgirl. Here in Des Moines, the children tell jokes or riddles when they get their candy. At six, she is a little shy about it, so I told the first part of her joke and she finished it.

Me: Why did the football coach go to the bank?

Her: So he could get his money back.

Me: What kind of money?

Her: A quarter.

OK, about half of the time she got it right. She's such a sweetheart. It was very cold and raining that night and when we left the house we were headed to the grocery store for candy. No fun. We got outside and into the car and I drove around the corner. Right in our neighborhood were several clusters of houses that were all lit up, so we ditched the grocery store (although very generous of them!) and we walked up and down a lot of driveways.

Everyone is always so disappointed there aren't more children out. It was a blast to interact with everyone - so happy to have trick or treaters! I had never taken anyone out before. I had a really good time.

Then today I went for another walk. I walked/ran 7 miles in 90 minutes. The weather was perfect. I felt great and might have been able to go longer, but I needed to get home and get ready to take a friend of mine to dinner. She turned 77 this weekend!

That is a great tradition of telling jokes. I've never heard of that but I think it makes Halloween more friendly and less spooky! 7 miles in 90 min: WOW! I usually walk 4-5 miles/day. You're an inspiration.

I suck at telling jokes in person, too, messing up the punchline in ways you wouldn't think possible.

7 miles in 90 minutes -- WOW! You are really fit! That is fabulous. Were you wearing cowboy boots?

CINDY: I was wearing cowboy boots. For the last time. They were painful.

Gel: 4-5 miles a day is better than 7 miles 2/3 times a month. Seriously.

RW: do you want them? ouch.

BAG: I can't tell a joke to save my life.
